Icepick - final 7"

Picked these up at the final show we played with them last weekend. Icepick was as good as ever. Gotta love that band. Or as the label puts it:

Take a trip to memory lane in Dutch hardcore and reminisce one of the most promising bands from the Netherlands in the last decade. It was 2003 when a young band called Icepick put out a demo on Discontent Records. The 5 songs inspired by bands like Cro Mags, Bad Brains and the Icemen turned many people’s head. I still remember setting up a show in a small pub and the weeks before you could feel the tension rising and before Icepick struck their first note, you knew the place would explode. Numerous shows throughout Europe followed and meanwhile the band got picked up by Not Just Words Records for their debut CD ‘Goldrush’. This simply was the perfect follow up to their amazing demo. Some more Icemen and later-era Cro Mags influences were thrown in the mix, and all songs were delivered with so much precision, the harsh riffs, precious drum fills, the guitarsolos and the honest lyrics, you just had to bang your head to this one… ‘Goldrush’ got alot positive feedback and Icepick again played all over Europe. And then things got silent.

Until 2010 when a show in the Innocent, Hengelo (NL) was announced. Then on some trip to the UK, singer Emiel also noticed that there were 2 songs still unreleased, that Icepick would love to get out. Of course The Limit Records was very eager to do this job, so here we go.

Tracklist:
01. Quicksand
02. Seasons Change

And another one from the dusty shelves…

Outlive was a promising new band from the Netherlands. It’s a shame they packed it in that quick. Listen to them on Myspace.

Starve demo MMX TAPE

As their label puts it: “Starve is a sludge act hailing from the Netherlands. This is their four song demo remixed especially for this release, along with a 11×17″ foldout lyric sheet, vinyl sticker as well as hand assembled/inked cardboard case.”

It’s Kudel’s (A Step Apart, Civil Terror) new band and I would have picked it up if only for the packaging. It looks great. Tape is limited to 200 copies and was released in the USA by Headfirst Records.

The Wonder Years #1 ZINE

The Wonder Years Issue 1 is the first English version of Michael’s Polish zine called “Cudowne Lata”.  It’s 80 pages of quality printing, in-depth interviews, columns and nice lay-outs. People/bands interviewed are: Robert Matusiak (Refuse Records), Greg Bennick (Trial), Adam Malik (The Essence Records, Pain Runs Deep), Sacred Love, Ritual, Remission, Unveil, Outrage, One Kind Words and much more. Oh and yours truly is interviewed too.

I really like this one.

Tremors - demo TAPE

Tremors is the new band featuring Dirty Money’s Graham on vocals. They sound nothing like that though. Think Antidote. Think fast raging hardcore. Check it out for yourself on their Myspace.

A Short Fanzine About Rocking #27 ZINE

I love little zines like this. They’re only little in size, not in content. There’s just so much stuffed in there. This one isn’t the best looking zine you’ll ever pick up but it’s good. Interviews with Trash Talk, Never Again, Deftones, Dillinger Escape Plan and more. Lots of record reviews, gig reviews, zine reviews. I don’t know. Really liked this one. Keep up the good work!

There’s even a positive review of our show @ The Grosvenor in London, which wasn’t one of our best to say the least. So thanks for that Nick!

Soul Search DEMOTAPE + Save My Soul Records #1 ZINE

Soul Search comes from California, USA and plays NYHC. You know, think Breakdown, Dmize, Crown Of Thornz. Or if you’re new into this kinda thing, think Trapped Under Ice. In other words: GOOD STUFF.

Check their Myspace.

Along with the tape comes a zine by the label that put out the demotape. Germany based. Interviews with Animal Instinct, The Ice, Floorpunch, Scott Vogel, Mike The Gook etc.

Union Town - s/t EP

I’ll let Bootsman do the talking on this one, copy and paste of his review for asice.net:

“I was always under assumption that this band already reached their compositional maturity with their self titled debut. But boy, I was dead wrong. Side A’s title track alone should draw a truly breathtaking response from their listeners. After a lengthy Fucked Up-esque intro the band rips into a mesmerizing rocker that would do well as an opening track for any Tarantino movie. Six minutes seem to fly by as you get sucked into the song.  Side B features two tracks that come uncannily close to perfection as well. With “Blinding Lights” they have set the bar really high for themselves. Luckily, “Singing our world into existence” and “Start from the end” are both winners on their own and prove once more that they have grown musically and lyrically. Less punk, more rock! On a sadder note, this EP is also their farewell. Fuckers!”

Law And Order #2 ZINE

This is (considering the amount of pages) more of a book than a zine. It looks incredibly slick too. This comes from Sweden but is totally in English.

A huge Stay Hungry tour report. Interview with Hårda Tider (translates to Hard Times, apparently a big Swedish band). An interview with Vitamin X. A big 2000-2009-what-are-the-best-records-feature. Lots of reviews. Columns.

Drug Dogs #2 ZINE

Small zine from the U.S.A. Totally loved it. It looks messy (in a good way) and has all these little parts to read in the corners etc. You just keep on reading.

This edition has long interviews with Lion Of Judah, Spoiler & Knife Fight. Lots of reviews etc. Just pick up a copy.
